Wildfire Disaster Appraisal Questionnaire

Instructions

Please take the time to fill out this questionnaire about your property. This information will assist the appraiser in establishing a profile of your property before the wildfire disaster. Please answer the questions honestly and to the best of your ability.

How this Questionnaire Helps

In the case of wildfire disasters, the appraisal process can be very complex. Normally, an appraiser would conduct a thorough on-site inspection of a home or property to gather information in order to establish a value. However, when a home or property is damaged or destroyed, the appraiser must rely on alternate sources of information like this questionnaire. Other sources that an appraiser may use include previous listing information, previous appraisals, photos provided by the homeowner, other expert reports, tax assessor’s records, deeds, and other records. These sources of information are important to gain a better understanding of the home and to establish the basis for the appraisal.

What Happens Next?

The appraiser will continue the process of reviewing all applicable documentation and completing the appraisal process. A site visit to the property may occur, along with interviews with other local realtors and market experts before the final appraisal report is written. The report is delivered to the client, who originally hired the appraiser. This can be an insurance company, attorney, homeowner, or another interested party. Federal law prohibits a breach of confidentiality, so the appraiser can only discuss the outcome of the appraisal with the client.
